Subaru is a Japanese world meaning “unite”. The stars in the logo represent a cluster of six stars in the Taurus constellation. According to Greek mythology, the daughters of Atlas turned into this group of stars.

Subaru began as an Aircraft Research Laboratory in 1917 and didn’t produce cars until the 1950s, as part of the giant Fuji group of companies. In 1974, Subaru manufactured the first All Wheel Drive (AWD) car in America, known as the AWD Wagon. Currently All Wheel Drive is standard on all Subaru cars and it is arguably the best system available.

Also in the 1970s, Subaru introduced a flat-four engine in which the pistons moved on a horizontal plane rather than the conventional vertical plane. The prototype engine was originally pioneered earlier in the 20th Century by Jowett Cars of Bradford.

Subaru now creates road vehicles which mirror improvements developed for its Championship Rally cars and with worldwide sales in excess of 10 million vehicles, the appeal of the Subaru brand is stronger than ever.
