Isuzu began in 1916 when Tokyo Ishikawajima Shipbuilding and Engineering merged with Tokyo Gas and Electric Industrial Co. and began to build cars.

Its major breakthrough came when it built the first truck in 1934. Built to Ministry of Trade standards, it was named “Isuzu”, and in 1949, the company name was officially changed to Isuzu Motors.

The company focused on the development of trucks, but introduced its first Coupe passenger car in 1968. In 1971, Isuzu signed an agreement with General Motors and began producing a wider range of passenger cars, vans and trucks, and in 1975 Isuzu Motors America Inc. was established.

The pedigree for well-built vehicles is still apparent in today’s Isuzu single and double cab diesel and petrol pickups which are proven workhorses with a high degree of comfort and performance.
